This is a well-written, western-themed romantic suspense novel that will keep readers guessing throughout. If you like the TV show and book series Longmire, only with a tiny bit more romance, this is definitely the book for you. The characters are solid and immediately relatable, and the suspense keeps the story rolling at a steady clip. There are other books in this series set in the cozy — and sometimes intriguing — town of Beartooth, Mont., but they can all be read as stand-alones.

Detective Bentley Jamison is far away from his big-city roots, and out of his depth, when he comes to Montana for work. After one of Maddie Conner’s ranch hands goes missing, new deputy sheriff Jamison faces the wilderness in ways he couldn’t have imagined — and Maggie is just as wild and just as fierce. Determined to discover exactly what happened to the missing sheepherder, Jamison sets out with Maggie to unravel the mystery. Soon, the intensity of their circumstances — and of a storm that traps them on a mountain — leads them to give into their desires for one another; so, when they suddenly find themselves caught in the killer’s crosshairs, Jamison and Maddie wind up fighting for survival as well as their newfound love.
