Disillusioned actor Dayne Matthews would love to leave Hollywood and join the woman he loves in Indiana, but that isn't realistic. The issue of his birth family must be resolved, and he has to deal with an unwelcome surprise in his relationship with an actress.

When John Baxter's daughter discovers the existence of his firstborn son, he hires a private investigator to find the man. Can John face his fears and tell the rest of his family? Will God lead Dayne to the Baxters?

Dayne undergoes a great deal of growth and change, which keeps the plot of this latest Firstborn series installment moving quickly. Kingsbury's deft handling of the faith message is superb -- God's redemptive power is clearly shown throughout the story. (Aug., 350 pp., $13.99)
