The fifth entry in the sizzling Bachelor Firemen series is a blistering, beautifully written tale. Bernard explores beneath her characters’ facades to the vulnerable hearts that beat within them and engages readers in every steamy, heartfelt step of their surprising journey. The secondary characters are particularly memorable, making for a well-rounded story for both fans and new readers.

Fun-loving firefighter Derek “Vader” Brown is the strongest man in San Gabriel, but he’s had a soft spot for Cherie Harper since the day they met. If only he could get her to commit to more than their maddening on-again-off-again relationship. Cherie is on the run from a dark past and some bad people who are getting closer by the day, and she isn’t willing to put Vader, the best man she knows, in danger — even if it means breaking his heart and her own in the process. When Cherie’s little sister shows up in town with trouble in tow, Vader sees his chance to prove his strength and his love for her once and for all. (AVON, Mar., 384 pp., $7.99)
