Book Review

by Quentin Bates

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

Frozen Assets is a fabulous read! Bates balances descriptive, detailed writing about Iceland with a tightly written, fast-moving plot. His characters are intriguing and realistic. The mystery is well thought out and holds reader interest right to the last page. The subject of the international banking scandal gives the novel an unmistakable timeliness.

When a body is discovered in her rural Icelandic fishing village, Officer Gunnhildur is determined to find out how the man ended up there. Although the autopsy indicates that the man was inebriated and drowned, Gunna suspects foul play. She identifies the man by tracking him to his Reykjavik office, and is soon in the midst of a corruption scandal. As the investigation proceeds, an anonymous blogger is upsetting people with various accusations and business rumors. (SOHO, Jan., 336 pp., $25.00)
