Keating has created a female version of the film Tron, but with more excitement and realism. The romance is a soul-touching, emotional ride. Both River and Hawk are more than capable of taking care of themselves, but when they come together, they really thrive.

All River wanted to do was create a game that allowed everyone to experience the joy of movement and adventure. But when the Dark Lord starts messing with the levels, she finds herself stuck inside an ever-changing game with Hawk, a prisoner of the Dark Lord. In the real world things aren’t any better with her friend Nick keeping secrets and a man named Kaye set on finding out River’s magical secrets. (TOR, Nov., 416 pp., $6.99)
