GAMES PEOPLE PLAY
Reed writes with an almost lyrical flow, and the words seem to whisper off the page. The storyline is out of the ordinary and will remain on the minds of readers. Though there are a few sex scenes, the passion really lies in the verbal foreplay between the two characters. The buildup of emotion and mutual attraction is sexy by itself and will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Sydney Warren is an artist whose mentor/lover Max is wheelchair- bound. In an effort to test her faithfulness before proposing to her, Max hires male prostitute Colm Hennessey to seduce her. Colm is promised double his fee if he succeeds in sleeping with Sydney. Bogged down with his sister’s medical bills after an accident leaves her a quadriplegic, Colm turned to prostitution to make ends meet. Sydney is the first woman to outright reject his advances. What starts as a challenge turns into two hurt people learning to forgive themselves for past mistakes. (BERKLEY, Jun., 304 pp., $15.00)
