The love story here is significantly more tangible and enjoyable than O’Clare’s previous Bounty Hunter novel, Play Dirty, and it’s quite fun. However, the suspense plot actually gets in the way. The mad scientist playing games with human lives feels out of kilter with the rest of the tale, which is so grounded and delightful.
