THE GHOST AND THE GOTH
by Stacey Kade

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

RT Rating

Stupendous. This YA hits almost all the right spots. Troubled hero, secretly troubled heroine, nothing is as it seems in Kade’s breakout debut. Although the story’s conclusion may leave some feeling miffed, keep in mind that this is just the series starter!

When Alona Dare meets her untimely demise (hit by a bus while skipping first period) her life may be over, but her adventure has just begun! Although her now ex-boyfriend and now-ex-best friend may be playing tonsil hockey in the halls, Alona has more important things to worry about. With the help of a sort-of-psychic goth, Will, Alona must change her mean-girl ways and navigate what it means to truly be a friend. But will she be able to keep Will out of the psych ward long enough for him to help save her immortal soul? (HYPERION, Jul., 288 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 9781423121978, HC, 10 & Up)
