THE GHOST HUNTRESS: THE AWAKENING
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal
In this series starter, it’s fun to watch Kendall adapt from city living to her new suburban life. The Awakening is a YA romp made even more fun because of Kendall’s determination to get to the bottom of the ghostly mysteries in her new town. Older readers may find the story’s action a bit tame due to amount of adult supervision in the story. But, despite Kendall’s network of caring adults, they never mange to keep her entirely out of paranormal trouble!
When Kendall’s family leaves Chicago for the backwaters of Raddison, GA, she is not a pleased. Raddison quickly becomes more interesting than Kendall thought it would be. After Kendall hear a ghostly voice in her bedroom, her neighbor Celia convinces her that they should start a ghost hunting team to get to the bottom of the mystery. The team is rounded out by the addition of a preppy photographer, Taylor, a punk rocker named Becca along for sound analysis. The Ghost Huntress team is ready to help the undead cross over. But when a ghost threatens Kendall’s dad, the girls are forced to question if what they are doing is helping or harmful. (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, May, $8.99, ISBN: 9780547150932, PB, 12& Up)
