Sgt. Christine Canady likes her job at Tinker Air Force Base, and while she is excited about her new assignment in Saudi Arabia, she is not looking forward to the long plane flight. Her concerns prove valid when a terrible accident causes the plane to crash in the ocean. Christine is saved from drowning by a mermaid, who telepathically asks her if she will do anything to live. When Christine answers yes, the mermaid, Princess Undine, magically switches bodies with her.

Then the merman Sarpedon attacks Christine, whom he believes is Undine. Salvation comes from the earth goddess Gaea, who knows Christine is not her daughter Undine, but will do whatever she can to help.

For her own protection, Christine is sent back in time to a medieval island. Merman Dylan knows she is not his childhood friend Undine, but he vows to protect and love her all the same. Can they outwit the deadly and dangerous Sarpedon?

A combination of mythology, time travel, adventure and romance makes this terrific novel one hot number. Cast is an amazingly inventive author with talent to spare. (Oct., 355 pp., $5.99)
