Book Review

Readers may spend most of their time re-reading passages of this difficult book to grasp. The complex language completely takes away from the storyline. The author attempts to put a modern twist on a classic novel by Dickens but it doesn’t work.

Pip is a werewolf who spends his days under the tyrannical thumb of his sister/guardian and her overly nice and sympathetic husband. After years of apprenticing for a silversmith, he gets the chance to move to London and become a proper gentleman of society. Never far from his mind is the beautiful Estella, who as a child was rude and rambunctious, but has now grown up to be a take-no-prisoners vampire slayer. (GALLERY, Aug., 400 pp., $15.00)
