THE GREAT ESCAPE
If you loved last year’s Call Me Irresistible, you are going to adore The Great Escape, as it picks up events from the aborted Jorik/Beaudine wedding and, this time, focuses on runaway bride Lucy Jorik. When you venture into a Phillips novel, you are bound to meet wacky and touching characters whose adventures will bring a smile to your lips and touch your heart. Marvelous!
As the daughter of a former president, Lucy Jorik is used to the spotlight, but when she bails on her wedding to “perfect” Ted Beaudine at the last minute, Lucy just wants to escape and hide. Summoning her latent inner wild child, Lucy jumps on the back of a motorcycle belonging to a menacing-looking man called Panda. Despite his irascible manner, Panda proves to be an intriguing companion as Lucy suffers her identity crisis. Panda is not who he first appears to be and has his own secrets and issues. Life has already thrown Lucy some interesting curves; can she listen to her heart and her head to discover the next chapter in her story? (MORROW, Jul., 384 pp., $25.99)
