The third chapter of Wells’ dazzling series finds edgy heroine Sabina Kane racing against the clock to save her recently discovered twin sister. To say that the dynamics in the Kane family are dysfunctional is truly an understatement. From the opening page, the story hurtles along at full throttle. Yet it is not without its funny moments, like the evolution of “Team Awesome.” A seriously wild ride!

Time is running out for half-vampire/half-mage Sabina to rescue her twin, Maisie, from their vicious vampire grandmother, Lavinia Kane.

The Dominae vampires nearly destroyed the mage Hekate Council in a sneak attack, so Sabina, sexy mage Adam and Giguhl, Sabina’s demon minion, are looking to even the odds. Sources tell them that New Orleans is where Maisie is being held. Upon arrival, the team learns that Lavinia has a much more dangerous plot in mind than just getting rid of her granddaughters. Looks like that prophecy starring Sabina may not be too far off! (ORBIT, Mar., 400 pp., $7.99)
