Book Review

GUARDIAN OF THE GATE
by Michelle Zink

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal, Historical

RT Rating

This will delight gothic fans, and the legend is reminiscent of Susan Cooper’s Seaward. The worldbuilding and monsters are well crafted. A repetitive narrative keeps this from reaching its full potential.

Twins Alice and Lia are part of a centuries-old prophecy about the devil’s chance to re-enter our world. When Alice, the “good twin,” is seduced by the dark side, Lia flees to protect herself, her new powers and the fate of the world. As Lia travels across Europe, Alice taunts her by mis-using their magic (and trying to steal Lia’s maybe-boyfriend). Can Lia find the missing part of the legend and avert the end of the world?
