GUARDIAN OF THE HORIZON
by Elizabeth Peters

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Historical

2004 Best Historical Mystery Nominee

RT Rating

In her 16th Amelia Peabody Emerson archeology mystery series, Peters goes back in time to an unexplored archeological season, 190708. These events take place right after those in The Ape Who Guards the Balance (1999).

The previous season was hard and painful for the Emersons: A beloved friend died saving Amelia's life. Back in London the family is stunned by the arrival of Prince Merasim, the younger brother of Tarek, the leader of the Holy City of the Lost Oasis. The last time Amelia and Emerson visited the Lost Oasis (The Last Camel Died at Noon) they saved a kingdom. Upon learning about Tarek's desperate request for assistance, the Emersons set off for the secret location—and it looks like they'll once again end up in danger.

Master storyteller Peters plugs a few gaps, adds some new twists and offers readers another rip-roaring adventure. (Apr., 416 pp., $24.95)
