GUARDING THE SOCIALITE
GUARDING THE SOCIALITE (3) by Kimberly Van Meter: FBI agent Dillon McIntyre is assigned to find the serial killer murdering prostitutes, but it’s not a case he wants. His last case ended with an agent dying and Dillon badly injured, and his confidence is shaken. The murdered women are all connected to Iris House, an agency that gives the women a place of safety while they try to change their lives. Emma Vale founded Iris House and has turned it into her life. Her wealthy and prominent parents object, but Emma is dedicated to the women she is trying help. While a different setting with sympathetic characters makes this an interesting read, the easy sexual relation between Emma and Dillon feels too fast and too easy for committed professionals risking so much. The parents are not well drawn, their conflicted feelings unexplored. There is also very little about Dillon’s change from burned-out FBI man to committed detective.
