Seeing what looks like a boy on a runaway horse, Hawk Morgan goes to the rescue. Randi Stockton is terrified when she sees the Comanche warrior chasing her. Both are surprised: Hawk, to find out that the "boy" he went to save is a young woman, and Randi to hear Hawk speak English.

Hawk is tracking rustlers and doesn't have the time or the desire to get involved with a woman. But there is something about Randi that calls to his lonely soul.

As Hawk gets closer to the rustlers, they get desperate and ambush him, Randi and her father, Jack. Hawk and Jack are left for dead and Randi is kidnapped. Hawk goes after Randi, realizing he has fallen in love.

Smith is the consummate storyteller. Her heroines are always strong western women who can take care of themselves. The pacing is quick, with snappy dialogue moving the story forward at breakneck speed. Readers will not be disappointed. SENSUAL (Aug., 349 pp., $5.99)
