HAPPY HOUR AT CASA DRACULA
by Marta Acosta

Genre: Mainstream, Chick lit

RT Rating

Milagro de Los Santos isn't feeling herself. She hallucinates while sleeping, barely tolerates broth or tea, yet craves red meat. She was fine until she attended a book party for her former boyfriend and met this sexy man who gave her a nip on the neck while they were dancing. The old flame, now naughty and not nice, kidnaps her, but she's rescued and spirited away by Oswald, the man who infected her.

Milagro flourishes at Oswald's family ranch and becomes part of the family
she never had. Although Oswald has a fiancee, other members of the family keep her life fulfilled. Then a showdown precipitates an unusual ending as
Milagro contemplates returning home.

Although Milagro's new friends are vampires, they are the good guys in this hilarious debut. Acosta's heroine is fresh and sassy, and it's interesting to see the impossible romance between Milagro and Oswald develop. There are some intriguing plot twists in this keeper, and all the characters are worth watching. (Jul., 320 pp., $13.00)
