HARD TO RESIST (3) by Jean Brashear & Peggy Webb: In Brashear’s “Downright Distracting,”crew chief Ryder McGraw isn’t thrilled to add chaperoning his boss’s daughter to his hectic schedule, and he’s certain yoga instructor Hailey Rogers will drive him to distraction with her tofu-eating ways. In “Shifting Gears” by Webb, 44-year-old flamboyant beauty salon owner Rue Larrabee believes her unlucky encounters with men are evidence enough to give up on relationships, but that doesn’t stop her from fantasizing about the shy owner of FastMax Racing, Andrew Clark. Brashear’s story is pleasant, albeit in a predictable sort of way and Webb’s plot would have benefited from a little more complexity.
