This title may be a hit for Ireland enthusiasts, but for this reviewer it falls flat. The plot is predictable and lags in the middle. Rory’s and Saraid’s lack of depth is evident. Although the supporting cast is strong, their parts in the plot simply seem like setup for the next installment in the series.

Contemporary Rory MacGrath is being haunted, first by a medieval woman who lurks in his dreams and then by the ghost of his grandmother, begging him to return to his native Ireland. But when he does, he’s thrown back in time to ancient times. There he and the woman from his dreams, Saraid, must unravel a plot against Saraid’s family and foil an ancient evil. Will the couple’s love (and their supernatural powers) be enough to save their future? (BERKLEY SENSATION, May, 368 pp., $15.00)
