Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Twilight, and then they all go to Hogwarts. If you’re a fan of this type of book, then Haven is for you; if not, feel free to pass. It’s very engaging but thoroughly unoriginal. The plot moves bizarrely fast and is predictable, which takes away from the overall decent writing.

When Violet discovers her new school, Winterhaven, is for those with psychic gifts, she is delighted to finally be able to make friends who know everything about her, and who believe in her strange but certain visions of the future. She soon meets the unsettling Aiden. Their chemistry is undeniable, but he also has dark secrets. When Violet begins having visions of Aiden’s death, and her involvement in it, she forces him to reveal his horrific secret. Can she come to terms with the special powers that are the reason he came to Winterhaven? (SIMON PULSE, Feb., 416 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 9781442407602, HC, 12 & Up)
