The second book in the wonderful Stoney Ridge Seasons series reunites readers with some characters from the first book and introduces some new ones. The characters are well written; some are scene stealers. Fisher keeps readers interested without all the bells and whistles.
Sadie Lapp has come back to Stoney Ridge, and she has brought someone with her. She knows her secret will make the tongues wag in the community, but she has to protect her family. Gideon Smucker, the local teacher, has been in love with Sadie since he was a lad. When he discovers her secret, he assumes the wrong thing and may lose her even before he has a chance to court her. Will Stoltz is an outsider who has been ordered to protect a pair of falcons who are nesting in a tree on the Lapp farm. His relationship with Sadie is tearing his world apart. Sadie must make a life-changing decision regarding the two men. (REVELL, Aug., 320 pp., $14.99)
