Its been three years since the events that nearly tore Emerson family apart. Nefret, Emerson and Amelia's foster daughter, has since recovered from a brief and ill-advised marriage and become a fully qualified doctor.

Amelia, Emerson, Ramses and Nefret are all in Cairo for the archeology season. However, storm clouds are brewing all over Europe and the Middle East as WWI commences. Ramses pacifist stance makes him unpopular in the British community. Tensions escalate over the fear that the Turks may invade Egypt and take over the Suez Canal. Then there are the actions of the mysterious Egyptian leader el Wardani who is agitating for insurrection.

Meanwhile, Emerson has discovered a beautiful, ancient statue. Amelia, however, fears the return of master criminal Sethos. Shes foiled some of his escapades, but he always managed to escape, all the while declaring his love for her.

In addition, there is everyone's favorite unresolved question can Ramses and Nefret's aborted romantic relationship ever be salvaged? These questions and more are finally answered.

The breathtaking new release HE SHALL THUNDER IN THE SKY. Elizabeth Peters is unquestionably one of the most talented and incomparable storytellers of our time! (May, 400 pp., $25.00)
