Book Review

by Laura V. Hilton

Genre: Inspirational, Contemporary Romance

RT Rating

Hilton’s first Amish of Webster County book has well-defined characters who wear their emotions on their sleeves and are not ashamed of letting their flaws show. Readers will find a glossary in front of the book with the meaning of the Amish words. The author’s knowledge of, and respect for, the Amish is apparent in this tale.

Webster County midwife Kristine Lapp finds herself in an accident, and help comes in the form of Shane Zimmerman, the local vet. Shane used to be Amish and has no plans of returning to that way of life. He is very suspicious of Kristine’s use of herbs and other natural remedies, since he blames the use of those for the death of his wife during childbirth. When they are constantly thrown together because of Chinook, Kristine’s dog, they discover they both have feelings for each other. Can Shane go back to the Amish, or will Kristine be willing to leave her ways behind and become English? (WHITAKER HOUSE, Oct., 336 pp., $10.99)
