Gorgeous and disturbed Luke returns in book two of the Play Doctor series. This time, readers get to learn a little more about him, but with the other characters hogging the spotlight throughout the storyline, one may not be sure of who to focus on. That’s just a minor flaw and does not hinder the plot whatsoever. As far as the steamy trysts, readers are not thrust into sex scenes just because it’s labeled as an erotic romance. But there’s plenty of heat to raise one’s temperature more than a few notches, with full-blown details that are not for the faint of heart. An all-around awesome, suspenseful and intriguing tale.
Kurt and Becca are best friends with sexual psychologist Luke Malone, whom they’ve been sharing a bed with to add some spice to their marriage. But Luke has been leaving with a feeling of emptiness and envy, wanting a woman of his own. The spark is gone, and he feels even more hopeless when he discovers his new patient is the beautiful woman he recently met at the grocery store. Brielle Norris has been left scarred by years of abuse from her father and ex-boyfriend and is in need of help from a competent therapist. Luke turns her away because of their mutual attraction. But Luke can’t stand to see her hurt. Could his former threesome become a foursome as a solution? Whose healing touch will be healing whom? (SAMHAIN, Nov., 264 pp., $15.00)
