HEART OF THE STORM

Author(s):

An interesting tale of Native American powers that can only be accessed by women, this is a fast-moving story. But it's difficult to connect to these characters. There's little personal background, and it's hard to fathom how the villain is able to accomplish all that he does.

Rogan Fast Horse stole a sacred ceremonial pipe and used it to magically kill the vice president. Now Dana, the one who is supposed to inherit the pipe and its power -- and whose mother was murdered by Rogan to get it -- is called on to retrieve it. She has only five weeks before the pipe can be used to strike again.

With the help of Chase Iron Hand, a powerful psychic warrior and healer, and ex-Delta Force, Dana must become a warrioress, one able to fight and perhaps kill Rogan. While the FBI searches for the murderer, Chase works to prepare Dana for a battle that must be won. (HQN, Dec., 384 pp., $6.99)
