Four years ago, the luck and the dogged determination of FBI agent Brad Booker saved Lisa Langley from certain death at the hands of a killer known as the Grave Digger. Following the conviction of William White for the brutal murders, Lisa moved away and changed her last name to try to get some peace.

But now it looks like the Grave Digger has returned -- or there's a copycat killer wreaking havoc. Since White died in prison, Booker concludes that someone else is out to continue his twisted killing spree. Knowing that Lisa will be high on the new killer's list, Brad contacts her to gather more information and try to protect her. The body count is rising, and time is running out for Lisa.

Herron's novel takes your standard serial killer storyline and gives it a sharp twist. Her plot is extremely intriguing and complex, but both the romantic elements and the characters suffer from underdevelopment. (Mar., 384 pp., $5.99)
