The second book in The Midwives series is full of adventures on the high seas with romance, mystery and pirates. The book starts out slowly, but fans of the time period and the high seas will find this an enjoyable read.

Widowed Phoebe Lee just wants to be the best midwife she can. The last thing she expected to happen was to be kidnapped. Soon she’s aboard a ship bound for an English prison to find a way for her sister-in-law Belinda to get her husband released. When she learns Belinda is further along in her pregnancy than anyone thought, she needs to convince the captain of the ship to turn around and get them both on land. Captain Rafe Docherty is after revenge; he needs Belinda to find and ruin the man responsible for destroying his family and his life. But between Belinda’s constant whining and the hostility from Phoebe, he thinks he made a mistake and is tempted to drop them off at the next port. As Phoebe gets through to Rafe that revenge is not the answer to his problems, they realize they have more in common than they think. (REVELL, Feb., 400 pp., $14.99)
