After Arabella Deverill's father dies in battle she learns Justin Deverill, a distant cousin, is his heir and that she must marry him within two months or loose everything. Strong-willed Arabella is none too pleased with her fate.

When Justin arrives, she avoids him and refuses to call him by name. Arabella has to contend not only with Justin, but also her half-sister, the very vulnerable Elsbeth, and Gervise, Elsbeth's very charming French cousin.

Justin weds Arabella, though he believes she and Gervise are lovers. In his anger, he refuses to believe her chaste-until the wedding night. Arabella and Justin must build a friendship and a strong, sensual marriage even as a murderer stalks them. Intent on finding the killer, Arabella risks her life and uncovers a startling family secret.
