This is a mystery rolled into a love story that is both exciting and tender. The culprit is unexpected and well- concealed. One standout is Freddie with his orderly existence and obsession with pigeons. Today he would be diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome as written in the author’s notes.

Lina, Lady Radbourne, is a widow after the earl fell to his death. Her solicitor summons a distant cousin believed to be the next in line for the title. Before Winstead Vaughan, his daughter and his younger brother arrive at the estate, Lina discovers she is pregnant. Should she have a son, he would be the next earl, not Win. Win is unsure whether he should remain and manage the estate until the child is born, but a series of threatening events occurs that convinces him to stay. He investigates the various threats but finds himself a victim. Win is drawn to Lina despite their circumstances, and she returns his feelings, but a misunderstanding severs their new relationship and puts them in more danger. (CARINAPRESS.COM, dl $3.99)
