Abandoned by two father figures and left with an alcoholic mother, Cody Carlyle relies only on herself and works as a bounty hunter in Fort Worth, Texas. Ex-cop Josh Pierce is a fellow bounty hunter with two goals: start his own P.I. company and get into bed with Cody. They combine forces to nab a bounty that will pay out big and find themselves in a till-death-do-us-part situation.

Although the story takes awhile to get rolling, this novel is spotted with bright moments of comic genius. Crude sexual moments intermingle with passionate lovemaking throughout the story, and Kelley's characters, who don't fight their attraction to the point of exasperation, are refreshing in the world of romance.
