When her husband leaves her and their teenage twin daughters for a yoga instructor, Lauren Holloway loses her friends, family and well-to-do lifestyle. She moves into a working-class Toronto neighborhood, next door to P.I. Erin Karmeli, who has a small child and offers Lauren a job as a P.I. trainee. Diner owner Murphy Jones is the center of the small, close neighborhood. He doesn't think Lauren will stay in the area and discourages Erin from hiring her. But Erin has a terrible secret that will change their lives. C.J. Carmichael's Her Better Half (4) shows Lauren's change from a middle-aged woman in cashmere and pearls to
a strong woman who builds a new life. Sympathetic characters, all with their own heartbreak, add to the atmosphere, and Lauren's personality is a well-developed contrast to Erin's.
