This is an absorbing and fascinating novel. The characters are well done, and readers are drawn into the story to the point where you almost believe it could be true. The struggle of the two souls for the heroine's body is absorbing and should appeal to those who enjoy ghost stories.

Unhappily married, Catherine White's attempt to murder her husband goes awry when she's attacked by his dog. The transplant of one eye and half of her face is successful, yet Catherine can't accept her scars and attempts suicide. But when she recovers, she doesn't appear to be the same person. She reminds her husband, Frank, of the girl he dated before
he married Catherine.

Frank loves the new, kinder Catherine, but the old Catherine still makes appearances. Then a confrontation with one of Catherine's past lovers convinces her good side that she must leave Frank for his own safety. When she's involved in a car accident, the old Catherine wins back her body, but
is her good side really gone? (Amira, Jan., 197 pp., $12.99)
