Recovering from near-fatal wounds, sheriff Quito Perez is determined to find the shooter. The return of Clementine Jones to his life after 11 years is a welcome distraction; they rekindle their affair almost at once. But Clementine has a secret: She's been doing charitable work overseas to hide from her abusive ex-husband. And now both she and Quito are in danger. Stella Bagwell's From Here to Texas (2) is fast-paced, and Quito and Clementine have potential—but there's little spark between them. The portrayal of her overwhelming fear of her psycho ex-husband is a problem too—because her past with him comprises so much of what drives Clementine. You just have to wonder why it takes her so long to simply face him!
