This sequel to Blaze of Glory surpasses the storytelling of the original. Nantus knows how to work with setting; the scenes in Las Vegas are vivid and accurate while the supers’ secret lair is homey and comfortable. Those unfamiliar with the story thus far may find themselves as lost as the supers feel. As the gang evolves, so too does the villainous threat.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since Jo Tanis shed her television superhero persona and became the leader of the super group known as the Protectors. Flying into the fray after an earthquake hits Erie, Penn., the group discovers that a rogue super has caused the destruction. Tracking Ground Pounder to Vegas, Jo heads west to reason with him, only to discover he isn’t working alone, and is threatening to destroy major cities unless a ransom is paid. Complicating the matter is a rogue guardian who’s threatening to kill supers with hardware the team thought was disabled. Working against the clock, Jo struggles against the number-one superhero rule: fight alone, die alone. (SAMHAINPUBLISHING.COM, dl $5.50)
