Book Review

HIDE ME AMONG THE GRAVES
by Tim Powers

Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

RT Rating

Powers once again pulls back layers of history to reveal dark forces at work. While a little too slowly paced and occasionally veering into repetitiveness, the book rewards readers with a delightful case of the shudders. The setting of Victorian London, damp, foggy and full of unsavory characters, adds an extra dimension to the story. Here, as in many of Powers’ previous books, the focus is not an epic threat to the world, but the struggle of an individual to save themselves in the face of incredible temptation.

This stand-alone sequel to the brilliant (and slightly more bloodthirsty) The Stress of Her Regard, has the troubled and talented Rossetti family pondering: what if muses and vampires were the same unearthly creature? The Rossettis must confront their own desires for immortality (whether literary or literal) or live a life cut off from the wellspring of poetry, but free from their muse’s murderous jealousy.
