In High-Stakes Bride (3), by Fiona Brand, readers are thrown immediately into the danger as a mother and child are on the run from a psycho killer. Years later, heroine Dani Marlow faces a new threat reminiscent of the stalker that once terrorized her. Next-door neighbor Carter Rawlins returns from a long stint in the Special Air Service, recovering from an injury and determined to settle down. His on-again, off-again relationship with Dani over the years is a problem that still keeps them apart, but now he's determined to prove to Dani that they belong together. Though not peppered with a lot of romance, the story is nonetheless a good afternoon read. Carter is very protective, and Dani is a strong-willed woman facing danger head on. The two of them are perfectly matched.
