THE HIGHEST STAKES OF ALL (3) by Sara Craven: Joanna Vernon is tired of accompanying her professional gambler father all over Europe. After a life-changing, late-night poker game, she finds herself in the company of millionaire Vassos Gordanis, a man scarred by personal tragedy. Joanna comes to love Vassos’ young daughter, and pretty soon, the millionaire himself. Although a well-written book, why this story is set in 1975 is a mystery. It adds nothing to the plot, and only serves to make the reader wonder about the author’s choice.
