Anice Kinloch has finally found a home in the Scottish Highlands after inheriting a castle, a keep and an odd assortment of relatives. However, her new position brings more than one headache as her family, the neighbors and the English Kings road builders are set to explode into battle over a bridge being built across the river.

Only Lucais McFarlane, the foreman of the crew, and a Scot, seems to be inclined to help her keep the peace. Despite their growing attraction, he is hiding secrets that could destroy their love and her new life.

Jo Ann Ferguson writes another delightful tale filled with zany characters, (a couple of four-legged ones), an ancient feud and a very current love story. (May, 256 pp., $4.99)
