Brice, reeling from a family betrayal and unrequited love, is immune to Marsaili's beauty — at first. This dynamic allows for a gradual romance, built on mutual admiration and respect. The couple's relationship develops in the aftermath of the Jacobite rebellion and the author blends historical fact and romance brilliantly. There are also several winning secondary characters, like Laith, a hound who protects Marsaili against unwanted suitors, and Archie, a young lad who quickly befriends Brice. Even the estate manager, Seton, is more than a one-dimensional villain. Technically a sequel, this Scottish historical romance reads like a standalone. You shouldn't miss this highland story, which will make you want to read the prequel Trade Winds!

After Brice Kinross is betrayed by his brother and his beloved, he sets off claim Rosyth, the family estate in the Scottish Highlands, as its new laird. But his homecoming is anything but triumphant. Mr. Seton, the estate's manager, has left Rosyth crumbling and penniless. Brice's one ally may be beautiful housekeeper Marsaili Buchanan, yet she's made it clear she wants nothing to do with him. He's handsome for sure, but Marsaili's experience with men tells her they only want one thing: to take advantage. However, as Brice's kindness, benevolence and keen interest in improving Rosyth become evident, Marsaili begins to fall for the new laird. Unfortunately, Brice's plans for Rosyth and his attentions to Marsaili have invited danger into their lives. Will the new laird survive the wrath of Mr. Seton?
