Revenge. Redemption. Romance. Mallory’s latest Regency is about an actress, a highwayman and an evil duo who so deserve their comeuppance! Readers will enjoy the characters and the plot twists, though the action does prove a bit off the mark at times.

Actress Charity Weston is restless and leaves London for country theatre. The only sour note is the proximity to her abusive father, the magistrate of the neighboring town. On her way, she meets infamous highwayman the Dark Rider, who steals a kiss. The heat flares deep, but she has no room in her life for a scoundrel. Charity is soon a sensation with plenty of admirers, but it’s antisocial ex-sea captain Ross Durden who captures her interest. When the truth of their secret identities comes out, they find themselves adversaries. Yet, it is Charity who will risk all to save Ross from enemies. (HARLEQUIN, Mar., 282 pp., $6.50)
