O’Riley incorporates many tried-and-true elements of the genre into this sweet and charming holiday story. There’s the family friend sent to watch over the young sister, the young lady’s desire for a prestigious marriage, the wager and, of course, the unexpected love that develops. But what sets this apart is the strong sense of family that pervades every page, and it will certainly warm hearts and bring smiles.

As the youngest of the Hamilton sisters, Yvette stubbornly refuses to accompany her sister and brother-in-law to America. Instead, she plans to catch Lord Shelby in marriage before Christmas. That is, if Lord Jeffrey Eddington would stop following her every move. Jeffrey reluctantly agreed to keep an eye on Yvette for her family. Though he’s known her for years, this suddenly beautiful and poised young woman is a temptation. Making a wager as to who can win her hand seems innocent enough — until he begins falling in love. Yvette easily captures Shelby’s attention but somehow he doesn’t hold a candle to the fire lit by Jeffrey’s smoldering kisses. Will love and some mistletoe conquer all? (ZEBRA, Oct., 352 pp., $7.99)
