Humiliated when her boyfriend dumps her for a coworker, art director Molly McGuire decides she needs a fake fiancé to accompany her to a company function. Hotelier Nick Bailey is the answer to her prayer—and he plays his part well. But when news of the "engagement" leaks out, Nick asks Molly to maintain the pretense for a while, because it's caused his ill mother's health to improve a little. Molly agrees, despite many misgivings, and finds that being His Convenient Fiancee (3) isn't enough for long. Barbara McMahon's use of a classic premise isn't completely successful, but the characters and setting are handled very well.
