ON HIS HONOR
ON HIS HONOR (4.5) by Jean Brashear: After her second marriage ends horribly, A-list movie star Violet James takes her best friend Avery up on his invitation to visit him in Austin, where he co-owns a nightclub. But when she arrives, she finds out she’s staying at a boutique hotel instead of with Avery, and his inability to spend much time with her has her relying on detective JD Cameron, a close friend of the hotel owner, to show her around. The two are attracted to one another, but Violet’s ability to trust is further damaged when she realizes that JD has his own agenda; he’s investigating Avery and his partner for money laundering and other criminal activities. This is a well-written story made even more exciting by Brashear’s depiction of Avery’s psychotic, dangerous partner. The plot moves along nicely, and the attraction between Violet and JD sizzles.
