Desperate for office help, Dr. Bryan Booker hires breast cancer survivor Melissa York, even if it means increased insurance costs. Although Melissa suspects that Bryan feels sorry for her, she takes the job anyway, since no one else will hire her. Soon Bryan falls in love with Melissa, even though there are no guarantees that her cancer won't come back. Feeling like less of a woman after a double mastectomy, Melissa isn't sure what Bryan sees in her. His Perfect Woman (4), by Kay Stockham, offers a bird's- eye view of what it's like to deal with and survive a deadly disease. Stockham's depiction of Melissa's feelings after her surgery seem spot on.
