In the charming His Very Personal Assistant (4), by Carole Mortimer, romance blooms unexpectedly between sensible Kit McGuire and her boss, Marcus Maitland, when he asks her to accompany him on a working weekend. Without the protection of her dowdy suits and prim glasses, Kit finds herself more than a little susceptible to Marcus' many charms. Unfortunately, a secret relationship between Kit and a business rival threatens their growing attraction, and she must reveal herself fully if they are to find happiness together. This is a very interesting love story with a compelling subplot. Mortimer does an excellent job of developing Kit and Marcus both as individuals and as a romantic couple. Additionally, the obstacles they face on the road to happiness are believable and make for a satisfying ending.
