HISS OF DEATH
Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth
The 19th Mrs. Murphy mystery features Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen and sleuthing cats Mrs. Murphy and Pewter. Fans will know that Brown “writes” these books with a feline co-author, Sneaky Pie Brown, making it appropriate that the cats help solve the mysteries. Written with wit and charm, this book will delight her many fans. The cats talk, but only to each other and the dogs.
The theme of this book is breast cancer. It starts with a 5k run for breast cancer and continues with Harry’s diagnosis and treatment. But someone is killing people from the hospital, starting with a much-respected operating nurse. Other murders follow and while there are some possible motives, the dead all seem too nice to kill. Harry and her husband Fair investigate the murders and fight breast cancer at the same time with the help of her animals. (BANTAM, Apr., 249 pp., $26.00)
