Coyle’s enjoyable 12th Coffeehouse book is a fun mixture of family, romance, cooking and mystery. As usual the recipes included look delicious. The mystery gets more scattered than usual in the party details and there is less interaction between Clare and her family, which is a loss for new readers. This is still a treat and a perfect Christmas mystery.
Clare Cosi and the Village Blend Coffee House employees are in charge of beverages at the Great New York Cookie Swap, a charity event that brings together the best pastry chefs and the celebrities. The fun ends when Clare discovers the battered body of a baker’s assistant. The police suspect a serial attacker committing what they dub “the Christmas Stalkings.” When one of Clare’s employers is implicated, it gives her an extra push to find out who the true murderer is. After another baker is killed, Clare finds herself in danger. (PRIME CRIME, Dec., 384 pp., $7.99)
