This first book in Halliday's new Hollywood Headlines series is a fun story with intriguing characters and a good mystery. The action is fast paced, the hero is delightful and the heroine is spunky and independent but smart enough to know when she needs help.
Gossip columnist for the L.A. Informer, Tina Bender has an online flirtation going with a man she knows only as ManInBlack. Since she lives in a retirement community with her great aunt Sue, who's getting a bit forgetful, it's the most intimate relationship she has.
A death threat prompts Tina's boss hiring Calvin Dean to be her bodyguard. Though at first Tina doesn't like having Cal shadow her, she comes to appreciate it as the threats escalate. When there's a murder, Tina is scared but also mad, which has her taking a risk that could cost her her life. (LOVE SPELL, Nov., 320 pp., $6.99)
