A fast-moving story that takes place over a short period of time, Harper's novel has plenty of action and some comic relief in the form of an affectionate dog and two bumbling robbers. Only the main character's introspective musings drag things down.
Sent to investigate the robbery, FBI agent John McKinnon ends up chasing Turner, and the attraction they feel threatens their goals: his to bring her in and Turner's to prove the bank president is the real crook. But their goals change quickly when it appears someone is out to kill Turner. (FOREVER, Jan., 400 pp., $6.99)
